Three Days

I've done a lot of odd things in my life. Some folks are surprised to learn that I spent 12 years in the Army Reserves and National Guard. Some folks are surprised that my little cherubs are 21 and 18.

And some are probably surprised that I'm planning to spend three days in September walking 60 miles in the Breast Cancer 3-Day to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Sixty miles! That's like, I dunno, sixty times around a mall!

In any case, some of you have probably received (if your spam filters didn't eat it!) the email I sent out earlier today explaining why I'm participating in the event, so I won't go into that here.

It's pretty interesting; I extracted email addresses from my Yahoo account and then the walk website saves them, so I wasn't paying attention to all the folks who'd be getting the email.

On the bright side, I learned that the Wiesmans (for whom I once babysat their firstborn son) have a second son who's going to turn one tomorrow. Wow! Who knew? Not me!

And on the other bright side, one of the guys I met at Fan Faire a couple of years ago received the email and immediately made a donation. I haven't talked with him in ages, so that was really a surprise to me.

So there's only bright sides to this! Yay!

Until the blisters arrive...

  1. Blisters? You planning on bringing a half dozen or so pair of shoes for a three day event again and not have the right pair and have to buy a couple more?

  2. I thought perhaps you might come along to carry my shoes for me.

    No?

  3. Wow, that is really cool! I can't imagine that distance, lol. What an awesome thing to do. :)

  4. Rob, you'd best meet her at the finish line with a gurney and a gallon of ice cream. She'll need the first and deserve the second!

Don't knock the shoe habit, either. Necessity is the mother of investment, don'cha know =D

  5. There's a comic there with me beside you looking more like a turtle with a backpack full of shoes for a shell.

Barb, she'll do fine, they'll keep to sidewalks and she doesn't really consider that a "real" walk. Her walks were so bad I used to have to carry my GPS to find our way back home. And as well as I remember she almost killed Broos on one of her walks through a rattlesnake and buzzard infested canyon shortly after moving to San Diego. Bet he never went with her for a short hike again. :)
